As the 2026 FIFA World Cup descends upon Massachusetts, the spirit of the tournament is set to ripple far beyond the stadium walls. From downtown Boston to the bustling streets of the North Shore, residents are preparing for a summer of soccer, culture, and community celebration.
Boston’s Neighborhood Celebrations
Mayor Michelle Wu recently announced that the City of Boston will host six community watch parties, ensuring the tournament’s energy reaches every corner of the city.
“Boston is proud to welcome the world this summer, and these watch parties will help bring the excitement and spirit of the World Cup directly into our communities,” said Mayor Michelle Wu. “These events give residents the chance to celebrate the games close to home—cheering together, sharing cultures, and being part of a historic moment for our City.”
The city-led events, which received official approval from FIFA broadcast partners, feature large viewing screens, live music, food vendors, and family activities.
Fiesta Fútbol in Chelsea
In nearby Chelsea, the anticipation is already at a fever pitch with the launch of "Fiesta Fútbol ’26." Funded by a $175,000 state grant, Chelsea Square will transform into a vibrant outdoor gathering space throughout the tournament.
“This is an excellent chance to bring people together in a way that reflects our community,” noted city officials, who are pairing the broadcasts with local food, live entertainment, and expanded youth soccer programming.
Lynn
The City of Lynn is ensuring its residents can participate in the 2026 FIFA World Cup excitement without the high cost of attending matches at Gillette Stadium. In a major community initiative, the city is partnering with the North Shore Haitian Association to host a free watch party for the Brazil vs. Haiti match on June 19 at City Hall. The event will feature traditional Haitian cuisine prepared by local chefs, providing an inclusive, culturally rich space for neighbors to gather and celebrate.
Beyond the watch party, Lynn is fostering community engagement through a youth soccer skills clinic led by the Essex County District Attorney’s Office on June 27 at Manning Field. Mayor Jared Nicholson and city officials are also revitalizing the "Visit Lynn" website to serve as a central hub for tournament-related events, further cementing the city’s commitment to accessible, neighborhood-based unity throughout the summer.
Revere
The City of Revere has launched the "Field of Play" initiative, a comprehensive summer tourism program designed to celebrate the 2026 FIFA World Cup while highlighting the city’s rich cultural diversity and vibrant small business community. Mayor Patrick M. Keefe Jr. and local leaders announced a series of free, family-friendly watch parties and festivals held across key neighborhoods, including Revere Beach, the Shirley Avenue corridor, and Beachmont Square at Suffolk Downs.
These events aim to provide accessible, high-energy spaces for residents and visitors to gather, featuring live match broadcasts, public art, and recreational programming. By partnering with local businesses, restaurants, and civic organizations, the initiative seeks to drive foot traffic into Revere's commercial districts, showcasing the city's unique local flavor to a global audience throughout the duration of the tournament.
Everett Joins the Celebration
“Everett is one of the most diverse cities in the state, with residents from around the world where soccer is a big part of everyday life,” said Mayor Van Campen. Plans for a public watch party at Everett Stadium are currently underway, promising a large screen, full sound setup, and diverse local food offerings for all to enjoy.
