Beverly has locked in a great afternoon commemoration this year, and much like its neighbor Danvers, the city is hosting its main community gathering on the Thursday afternoon right before the holiday weekend begins.

Beverly Juneteenth Celebration & Flag Raising

The event is organized by Mayor Michael Cahill’s office in collaboration with the Beverly Human Rights Committee to honor Black history, culture, and community joy.

  • When: Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 5:15 PM
  • Where: In front of Beverly City Hall (191 Cabot St, Beverly)
  • What to Expect: A formal community flag-raising ceremony. The program is heavily focused on community voices and features spoken word poetry, musical performances, reflections from local North Shore youth, and remarks from local civic leaders.

Danvers

Danvers has locked in a great plan for its 6th Annual Juneteenth Celebration, and it's happening right before the holiday weekend kicks off.

Rather than waiting for the holiday Friday when municipal sites close down, the town is hosting its community gathering on the Thursday afternoon right before.

The event is a direct collaboration between the Danvers Human Rights & Inclusion Committee and the North Shore Juneteenth Association.

  • When: Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 3:30 PM
  • Where: In front of Danvers Town Hall (1 Sylvan St, Danvers)
  • What to Expect: A community ceremony featuring local speakers, live music, art, and creative social expressions.

6th Annual Gloucester Juneteenth Celebration

This celebration is a collaborative effort between the city and the Cape Ann Museum, originating from grassroots local organizing a few years back.

The Trustees: Juneteenth Choate Island Kayak & Hike

The Trustees of Reservations are hosting a highly unique, deeply meaningful commemorative paddle and hike through the waters of the Crane Estate in Ipswich.

The event centers on a vital, newly illuminated piece of local history: honoring the lives of Jane and Violet, two enslaved teenage girls who lived and worked on the Choate Island Farm in the 1700s. Thanks to recent research by local students and ancestral descendants, The Trustees have installed a permanent historical marker on the island to ensure their legacy is permanently honored and remembered.

  • When: Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
  • Where: Launches into Essex Bay / Crane Estate waters (exact meetup directions are emailed to registrants upon sign-up).
  • What to Expect: Kayak guide interpreters lead a group paddle around Choate, Round, and Long Islands. You will land on Choate Island for a moderate hike to its highest point, explore the historic 1725 Choate House, and visit Jane and Violet's burial site and the new historic marker.
  • The Gear: The Trustees provide the sit-on-top kayak, paddle, and life jacket. Participants must be 15 or older and competent swimmers.

Lynn

If you are looking for a weekend gathering, the flagship regional celebration is heading to Lynn the day after the holiday.

  • NSJA Annual Juneteenth Celebration

Newburyport: The Afternoon

Revere/Chelsea

  • Early Festival (Past): The City of Revere actually held its official community Juneteenth Celebration a bit early this year, on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Costa Park. It featured live music, food, dance, and cultural displays.
  • Holiday Closures: For the actual holiday on Friday, June 19, city offices and the Revere Public Library will be closed to observe the day.

The Chelsea Black Community (CBC) group—which was recently honored at the State House for their local impact—organizes the city's flagship event every year.

    • When: Saturday, June 13, 2026 (Saugus pickup at 10:35 AM)
    • The Meeting Point: Anna Parker Playground (Saugus)
    • What it is: Organizers from Bike to the Sea are leading a group ride down the Northern Strand Trail. Riders starting in Malden and Revere will roll right through Saugus to pick up local cyclists before heading into Lynn.
    • The Destination: The ride culminates at the Lynn Museum & Arts Center around 11:00 AM for free admission to the moving Vessels of Slavery: Forget Me Not exhibit, featuring an interactive quilting workshop with the artists, followed by a community picnic lunch on the Lynn Common.

Swampscott

Swampscott "Let Freedom Ring!" Celebration

Swampscott is hosting its celebration the afternoon before the holiday weekend begins.
