Independence Day Options on the North Shore 2026
Because the North Shore has such a jagged, accessible coastline, the waterfront displays are legendary.
Here are the best spots to watch the fireworks on the North Shore this year:
1. Salem: Derby Wharf (Saturday, July 4)
If you want the full festive atmosphere without leaving town, Derby Wharf at the Salem Maritime National Historic Site is the place to be.
The Vibe: Massive community celebration.
The Details: Food trucks and live entertainment kick off at 5:30 PM.
At 9:15 PM, the fireworks launch over the harbor, perfectly synced to a live performance by the Hillyer Festival Orchestra playing the 1812 Overture. Pro-Tip: Parking downtown will be a nightmare by late afternoon. Walk down early, or set up blankets near the Salem Willows or Winter Island if you want a slightly more relaxed view of the harbor sky
⚠️ A quick heads-up on local rules: Salem has really cracked down on any private fireworks use this year with dedicated enforcement units and heavy fines ($200 for use, $1,000 for sale).
Stick to the public shows and leave it to the pros!
2. Marblehead: Harbor Illumination & Fireworks (Saturday, July 4)
Marblehead puts on what is arguably the most visually stunning, atmospheric show on the coast.
The Vibe: Classic New England maritime magic.
The Details: The night starts at 8:45 PM with the traditional Harbor Illumination (the "Ring of Fire"), where flares are lit all along the perimeter of the harbor.
The main fireworks launch from a barge at the mouth of the harbor right after at 9:00 PM. Best Vantage Points: Chandler Hovey Park (by the lighthouse) or Castle Rock offer incredible views, but they fill up hours in advance. Parks like Crocker Park or even Fort Sewall are also fantastic.
3. Gloucester: Stage Fort Park (Friday, July 3)
If you want to catch a show a night early and avoid the July 4th traffic crunch, head up the coast.
The Vibe: Classic beachy, relaxed North Shore night.
The Details: The display kicks off at 9:30 PM launched from the Fort Area/State Fort Park.
Best Vantage Points: You can get a spot directly on the grass at Stage Fort Park, or set up a lawn chair along Half Moon Beach or Pavilion Beach to watch them reflect over the water. (Rain date is July 5).
4. Beverly & Nahant (Saturday, July 4)
If you are looking for a slightly smaller, more community-centric beach vibe on the 4th:
Beverly: Head down to West Beach in Beverly Farms.
Their fireworks start around 9:00 PM. It's a fantastic, family-friendly spot right on the sand. Nahant: Pull up a spot near Bailey's Hill.
They launch at 9:00 PM, and because of the elevation, you can often see the lights from neighboring town displays across the water at the same time.
